ANDREW WINTER This television host and property expert once worked for a not-so-real real-estate agentMY FIRST JOB was cleaning cars at a car dealership on Saturdays with a bucket and sponge. The pay was a massive $10 a day. I hated the cold €” it was in autumn and early winter in England and my hands lost all sense of feeling. It was an 18-kilometre bike ride to get there, all because I wanted to clean nice, smart cars.MY WORST JOB was working for a real-estate agent. The worst tasks I had to perform were cold-calling and knocking on doors of houses not even on the market. The job was terrible because of my boss €” he had no ethics and no understanding of people and only succeeded through bullying staff and colleagues. We had a massive falling out one lunchtime when he had a go at me for not securing a deal that was simply not possible without telling big lies. I walked out there and then. Ever since, I can spot a dodgy agent and marketer a mile off!EFFIE MANNAndrew Winter hosts Selling Houses Australia on Wednesdays at 8.30pm from March 31 on The LifeStyle Channel.
